Rakhmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory
The upcoming event presents a new genre! It is going to be the first experience of the kind in Moscow – concert and lecture combined in one event. The audience will be introduced to the authentic guitars crafted in XIX century, namely: Antonio de Torres guitar (1864) and Martin company guitar (ca. 1885). The unique duo will be brought to life by brilliant players – Artyom Dervoed, the winner of 37 world music contests, and Tatiana Kurenchakova, also the world music contests repeated winner.
Artyom and Tatiana will perform the works by Mauro Giuliani, Giulio Regondi, Luigi Legnani, Niccolo Paganini, and Fernando Sor – the renowned XIXth century guitar composers.
The event host – Igor Pismenny, the theatre and cinema actor, will present the breathtaking history of classical guitar through the prism of stories about craftsmen, performers and composers of the Golden Guitar Age. Apart from that, Igor will display the authentic and original pictures taken from James Westbrook’s book The Century that Shaped the Guitar (www.facebook.com/GuitarHistory; www.theguitarmuseum.com). Igor’s lecture answers a number of enlightening questions:
– why did Paganini worship his guitar as ‘queen of the queens’?
– why does Russian guitar, as well as English one, is not a ‘perfect sample’ of the classical guitar?
– why is Spanish guitar not necessarily crafted in Spain?
– what role did Antonio de Torres perform in the development and improvement of the contemporary classical guitar?
The forthcoming concert is a unique opportunity to hear the voices of the XIXth century authentic guitars, learn the history of guitar art and craft, and dive into the matchless atmosphere of beauty and grace. Special guest of the evening – Dr. James Westbrook himself (Great Britain).
